When Repair Doesn’t Make Sense Anymore
Most garage door problems are repairable, broken springs, busted cables, worn rollers. But there are times when putting money into an old door just doesn’t add up. If your door is beyond 15–20 years old, has multiple dented or cracked panels, is poorly insulated, or keeps needing repairs every season, a new door is often the smarter investment.
A new door also changes the look of your home more than almost any other single project, garage doors cover up to 30% of a home’s front face. If you’re in a neighborhood like Highland Park or University Park where curb appeal matters, a new door can make a real difference before you list.
Multiple Panel Damage
When three or more panels are dented, cracked, or warped, especially after a vehicle backup or hail storm, replacement is usually cheaper than sourcing discontinued panels that may not match anyway.
Poor Insulation
An uninsulated single-layer door loses massive heat in Pueblo winters. A new insulated door (R-12 to R-18) keeps your garage, and the rooms above or adjacent, significantly warmer without adding to the heating bill.
Frequent Repairs
If you’ve had the springs replaced twice in five years, cables once, and rollers twice, the door is telling you something. At some point the labor cost of repairs exceeds the cost of starting fresh with a new door and a 10-year spring warranty.
Choosing the Right Door for Pueblo’s Climate
Not every door is right for every situation. Pueblo’s temperature swings, UV exposure at altitude, and occasional severe hail from the Wet Mountains all factor into which door material and construction makes the most sense for your specific house.
| Door Type | Best For | Pueblo Considerations | Typical Price Range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Steel (single-layer) | Budget replacement, detached shops, non-climate storage | Dents easily; good value for unattached structures. No insulation = freezes in winter | $600–$900 installed |
| Steel (insulated, 2-layer) | Attached garages, everyday residential | R-6 to R-9 value. Handles Pueblo temperature swings well. Most popular choice | $900–$1,400 installed |
| Steel (insulated, 3-layer) | Attached garages, living space above/adjacent | R-12 to R-18. Quieter, stronger, better thermal break. Best option for heated garages | $1,200–$1,900 installed |
| Carriage-Style Steel | Craftsman homes, curb appeal-focused upgrades | Steel construction with decorative overlay. Looks like wood, performs like steel. Popular in Belmont and Highland Park | $1,400–$2,400 installed |
| Fiberglass / Composite | Coastal-style homes, high-humidity environments | Won’t dent or rust, but Pueblo’s UV and dry heat can fade/crack fiberglass over time. Less common here | $1,600–$2,800 installed |
| Real Wood | Custom homes, premium curb appeal | Pueblo’s dry climate is harsh on wood, needs annual sealing. Beautiful but high maintenance. Better in shaded north-facing installations | $2,200–$4,500+ installed |

The Installation Process
A new door installation typically takes 3–5 hours. Here’s exactly what happens from call to completion.
Measure & Quote
We come out, measure your opening, height, width, headroom, side room, and backroom, and walk you through door options that fit your budget and your house. Written quote with door model, spring specs, and opener recommendation if needed. No obligation.
Order & Schedule
Once you approve the quote, we order your door. Lead times vary: many standard sizes ship in 3–7 business days; custom sizes and colors typically take 2–4 weeks. We’ll give you an honest timeline upfront, no surprises.
Remove the Old Door
We disconnect and remove the old door, springs, cables, and hardware. Old door disposal is included. If the opener is staying, we verify it’s compatible with the new door’s weight and adjust settings accordingly.
Install New Door & Hardware
Panels go in first, then tracks, then the spring system, sized specifically for the new door’s weight. We use quality hardware throughout: galvanized cables, sealed-bearing rollers, and properly tensioned springs. Everything torqued to spec.
Balance Test & Safety Verification
Manual balance test, auto-reverse force test, and photo-eye alignment before we let the opener take over. We walk you through the opener operation, show you the emergency release, and answer any questions. Done and done.
New Door Installation Pricing
Single-car steel doors installed start around $600–$900. Two-car insulated doors most commonly run $1,100–$1,800 installed. Carriage-style and wood doors start higher. Price includes old door removal, new door and hardware, and spring system sized for the new door. Opener not included unless replacing, we’ll quote that separately if needed.
New Garage Door Installation FAQ
How long does garage door installation take in Pueblo?
Most single-car door installations take 2–3 hours. Two-car doors typically run 3–5 hours. That includes removing the old door and all hardware, installing the new door and spring system, adjusting the opener if applicable, and a full safety check. We schedule a full morning or afternoon so we’re not rushing.
What R-value do I need for a garage door in Pueblo?
For an attached garage or any space where you care about temperature, a heated workspace, a home gym, a room above the garage, go with at least R-12. Pueblo’s temperature swings are dramatic, and a well-insulated door makes a real difference. For a detached storage structure that you don’t heat, a basic non-insulated door is fine and saves money upfront.
Can I keep my existing garage door opener with a new door?
Usually yes, as long as the opener is in good working order and strong enough for the new door’s weight. A 1/2 HP opener handles most single-car doors fine. For a heavy two-car insulated door, we’ll verify the opener’s torque rating and adjust force settings after installation. If the opener is over 15 years old, we’ll be honest about whether it’s worth keeping.
Do you haul away the old garage door?
Yes, old door removal and disposal is included in every installation. We take the panels, tracks, springs, cables, and hardware. You don’t need to do anything with it, just make sure the area is clear so we can work efficiently.
What warranty comes with a new garage door installation?
Door panels and hardware carry the manufacturer’s warranty. Clopay, Wayne Dalton, and Amarr all offer multi-year panel warranties (typically 1–3 years on paint, longer on steel construction). Springs are warranted based on cycle count. Our labor is warranted for 1 year. If anything we installed fails due to our work, we come back and fix it at no charge.
