What We Do
Track Problems We See All Over Pueblo
A garage door system has three distinct track sections that work together: the vertical tracks that run straight up along each side of the opening, the horizontal tracks that extend back along the ceiling into the garage, and the curved transition sections that connect the two. When any one of those gets bent, pulled out of plumb, or loses its mounting hardware, the door stops running smoothly, or stops running at all. In Pueblo, we see a specific mix of causes depending on the neighborhood. In tight alley-access garages in Bessemer and on the South Side, vehicles clip the vertical track while pulling in or backing out, it doesn’t take much of a bump to bow that lower section enough to cause grinding. In older homes throughout the area, house settling loosens the lag screws that anchor the track brackets to the wall framing, and over time the track walks inward and pinches the door. We also see track damage that cascades from panel damage, a hard vehicle impact dents a panel and simultaneously pushes the bottom edge of the door sideways, bending the track at the point of contact.
The first question we answer on every track call is whether we’re dealing with realignment or deplacement. Realignment means the track bracket hardware has come loose or the track has a minor bow that we can carefully work back into shape using a rubber mallet and clamps, then re-plumb and re-secure to the wall. That’s the most common outcome and the most affordable fix. Replacement is necessary when the metal is buckled or cracked, when a section has been bent so severely that straightening it would leave it structurally compromised, a rail that looks straight but has stress fractures isn’t safe to run a door on. We don’t try to save a section that should be replaced. One thing we almost always address on track calls is the rollers. Tracks and rollers wear against each other, and if the track got bent, the rollers took abuse too. Switching from stamped steel rollers to sealed ball-bearing nylon rollers while we’re already on-site adds maybe 20 minutes and dramatically reduces noise and wear going forward. We also match track gauge to the door: standard 2-inch track is fine for most single-car doors, but heavier double doors often need 3-inch heavy-duty track to handle the load without deflecting over time.
Our Track Services
Realignment, Replacement, or Roller Upgrade
Track Realignment
The most common fix, we re-secure loose lag screws and brackets, carefully work minor bends back into shape with a rubber mallet and clamps, and plumb-check the full track with a level before we call it done. Quick, effective, and avoids the cost of new sections when the metal is still sound.
Track Section Replacement
When a section is buckled, cracked, or bent beyond safe straightening, we cut out the damaged portion and replace it. We match your existing track gauge and style, 2-inch standard or 3-inch heavy-duty, and anchor the new section properly so it doesn’t walk loose again.
Roller Upgrade
If we’re already doing track work, swapping worn steel rollers for sealed nylon ball-bearing rollers takes 20 minutes and pays off in quieter operation and longer track life. Old steel rollers chew up track edges over time, replacing both together is the smarter move.
How It Works
Our 4-Step Track Repair Process
Inspect Full System
We check both tracks, all rollers, bottom brackets, and door panel edges for cascade damage, a bent track often means something else got hit too.
Identify Root Cause
Track damage is usually a symptom. We find what caused it, vehicle impact, loose hardware, house settling, or cascading panel damage, and fix that too.
Repair or Replace
We realign with rubber mallet and clamps when the metal is sound. We replace the section when it’s compromised. We don’t patch what should be replaced.
Lubricate & Test
All moving parts get lithium grease. We run the door full travel three times, verify opener force limits, and confirm smooth operation before leaving.

Frequently Asked Questions
Track Questions We Get All the Time
What causes a garage door to go off track?
The most common cause in Pueblo is a vehicle clipping the vertical track, happens constantly in tight garages and alley setups where there isn’t much clearance. The second most common is a broken cable: when a lift cable snaps, that side of the door drops and slams the rollers sideways off the track. Loose mounting hardware is another big one, older homes throughout Bessemer and the South Side have framing that’s settled over decades, and the lag screws that anchor track brackets gradually work loose until the track can’t hold a true vertical line. Worn or seized rollers can also cause the door to derail if they stop turning and start dragging along the rail.
Can an off-track door fall on someone?
Yes, and that’s why we tell people not to force an off-track door manually. A door that’s jumped the rails is no longer supported evenly, the full weight, typically 150 to 300 pounds for a residential steel door, is being held by whatever parts are still engaged. Forcing it up or down can cause it to drop suddenly. If your door is off track, disconnect the opener and do not operate the door until we’ve inspected it. Call us the same day, this is one situation where waiting isn’t worth the risk.
Can you straighten a bent track without replacing it?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no, it depends entirely on how severe the bend is and whether the metal was stressed beyond its yield point. A minor inward bow or a bracket that got knocked out of plumb, we can work back into shape. A section that’s been kinked hard enough to crease the metal, or one that took a direct vehicle impact and has a sharp angular bend, generally can’t be safely straightened. Running a door on a compromised track puts stress on rollers, bottom brackets, and the opener that adds up fast. We’ll show you the section and explain the call, we’d rather replace a section than come back in three months because a bad repair failed.
Why is my garage door grinding on one side?
Grinding on one side almost always points to a track or roller problem on that side. The track may have shifted inward slightly so it’s pinching the roller, a roller may be seized and dragging instead of rolling, or the track bracket spacing has changed from loose hardware and the track is running out of true. It can also be a worn roller that’s developed flat spots and is chattering through the track rather than rolling smoothly. We’ll inspect both the track and the roller on the grinding side, one usually tells the story of the other. Don’t ignore the grinding; rollers and tracks wear each other down fast once the contact isn’t clean.
What’s the difference between 2-inch and 3-inch garage door tracks?
The measurement refers to the inside width of the track channel, which determines the roller size and the load the track can handle. Standard 2-inch track is what you’ll find on most single-car residential doors, it’s sized for doors up to about 14 feet wide. Three-inch heavy-duty track is designed for wider, heavier double doors, commercial applications, or high-lift configurations where the track takes more lateral force. Using undersized 2-inch track on a heavy double door causes the track to flex and deflect over time, leading to roller wear and premature failure. We assess the door weight and size when we spec a replacement to make sure we’re putting in the right hardware.
