FAQ
Genie Opener Questions
Why does my Genie opener reverse before closing all the way?
This is almost always a safety sensor issue — the photo-eye sensors at the base of the door tracks are misaligned or have something blocking the beam. Check that both sensors show a solid light (one amber, one green). If they’re blinking or one is out, realign them or call us. It can also be a down-limit adjustment problem on older Genie screw-drive models.
My Genie remote stopped working — is it the remote or the opener?
Start with fresh batteries. If new batteries don’t fix it, try the wall button — if the wall button works but the remote doesn’t, the remote needs to be re-programmed to the opener using the learn button. If neither works, the issue is with the opener’s logic board or frequency receiver. We can diagnose it on-site and reprogram or replace what’s needed.
How do I set up Aladdin Connect on my Genie opener?
Aladdin Connect works with most Genie openers made after 2011. You’ll need the Aladdin Connect add-on kit if your opener doesn’t have built-in WiFi, or if it does, download the Aladdin Connect app and follow the pairing instructions on the learn button. If you’re having trouble getting it to connect or stay online, give us a call — we set these up regularly and can walk you through it or bandle the setup during a service visit.
Genie screw-drive vs belt-drive — which is better for Pueblo?
Both work well here. Screw-drive openers have fewer moving parts and handle temperature swings decently, but need periodic lubrication on the screw rail. Belt-drive models are significantly quieter and ideal if the garage is attached to a living space. For Pueblo’s climate — hot summers, cold winters, occasional extreme temps — either works, but belt-drive has become the more popular upgrade choice.
How long do Genie openers last?
Withregular maintenance, Genie openers typically last 12–15 years. Their screw-drive models are particularly long-lived when lubricated annually. Belt-drive models tend to have fewer wear-related failures. If your Genie opener is over 10 years old and needing repairs, we’ll give you an honest assessment of whether it’s worth fixing or honest to upgrade.
